Mount Everest Revisited
Photos submitted by: Paul Miney

Some fantastic photos by Paul from his trek to Everest base camp last October. Click on each photo to view a larger version.
Also, see article in the April 2008 edition.

Our first view of Everest on the trek. The top is visible behind Nuptse ridge with Lhotse to the right. This was taken from the Everest view hotel at 3950m which is a 500 m climb from Namche Bazar. Lobuje peak (6,145 m) taken on the track to Lobuje approx 1 km from Dingboche at 4,500 m. This is one of the Himalayan peaks which can be attacked with minimal climbing experience.
Makalu (8,462 m), the 5th highest mountain in the world, approx, 22 km east of Everest which came into view on our acclimatization climb to 5,100 m from our tea-house in Dingboche. The beautiful Ama Dablam (6812 m) also taken on our acclimatization climb from Dingboche. This mountain was on our right hand side all the way from Tengboche.
Lhotse (8,501 m), the 4th highest mountain in the world at sunset from tea-house in Dingboche. Lhotse Shar (8,400 m), the furthest right peak is also visible. Khumbu Icefall with tip of Everest in center, Nuptse ridge to the right and West shoulder of Everest to left. Taken from Base Camp at 5,450 m. The icefall the most dangerous part of the climb to Everest from the Southern side.
The author, exhausted but happy, near base camp with tip of Everest in background and Khumbu glacier/icefall to the left. Southwest face of Everest at dawn from Kala Patar at 5,545 m, with South Col separating Lhotse to the right. The South Summit and Hillary Step are visible on Summit ridge.
